Regular room… sleep… reuniting with boys.

From Mike:

Steve has been moved from ICU to a regular room in the trauma unit. I am here now listening to him snore in a peaceful quiet room… a heavenly sound. No beeps and bells from ICU adding to the delirium.

Steve is stable. He ripped his feeding tube out this morning and has been eating and drinking normally, with… assistance. The only remaining tube hooked to his body is his neck drain from surgery.

Michelle is as we speak reuniting with the boys …. all very good.

Great news! The Lord will continue to heal Steve's body until it is completely restored and he will be a walking witness of God's amazing power to heal and restore. Have just come back from the 10.30am service at Union Church. EVERYBODY is praying for Pastor Steve and the whole family…….. Being in God's hands are the best hands you can be in. It is a privilege to pray for and intercede for someone. Thank you for giving us that privilege.

Wonderful news. Sharing with Pastor Steve and Michelle words from our anthem at UCM today. I am certain the congregation held the Ruetschle family in their prayers this morning.

A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
    He taketh my burden away,
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
He giveth me strength as my day.

Praise God for that wonderful news! I am so thankful Pastor Steve is able to eat and drink. I've been praying for that. I'm a dietitian and I've been praying for Steve's nutrition as it so affects his body's ability to heal. I'm so glad he can eat on his own. I can just see him “un-slinking” the feeding tube out of his nose- what a relief that must have been! (not the actual process though!) That is just one sign of his determination. Praise God!

“For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep” Yes as the psalmist said it, that sleep is God's gift to Steve. We pray, Michelle that you get it, too. The week before was a big uphill climb for all of us,too. As we read each day, each email you send, each update that Sean sends, and so with Mike, we are taking each, one step at a time (with prayer and lots of love). And with each step comes God's grace and mercy, each step comes God's help and healing. If we are trying to look at God's purpose behind all this–one of them is that tremendous strength of faith that you have shown us, Michelle. It is a true blessing for all of us….
    Lots of love and prayers,

Mike, it was wonderful to be able to visit, see Steve, Michelle and yourself as you cared for Steve. We were uplifted to hear Steve respond to our being beside him and his asking us to pray with and for him and to feel the strength in his hand as I held it. Despite his pain he was focused and I trust that the few moments we had made him aware of how many others would love to be there also to make their love and concern tangible. We also saw the reality of the journey ahead as he heals and rehabs. The miracle has begun but we pray for the God to encourage you and sustain you all each hour and day as you minister to Steve in the process ahead. The Lord be your strength.
